Vienna Drunk Driver Crashes into Pole, Arrested
On Wednesday, police in Vienna arrested a driver on a suspected DUI after a car crashed a utility pole just off of Maple Avenue East. The report from the Vienna Police Department indicates that the crash occurred close to 1:00 in the morning. The car has not been described in any detail and the driver of the vehicle has not been named, however a series of details relating to the incident have been released.
It seems that the driver was navigating the vehicle down Maple Avenue East when they began to lose control. Swerving around the major road, the car crossed over all four traffic lanes before exiting the asphalt and colliding with a utility pole situated off on the road’s shoulder. The impact with the pole did not cause the driver to stop the vehicle, and instead caused the car to ricochet back across Maple Avenue East’s four traffic lanes and return to the rightmost lane of the eastbound side of the street. It is believed that the car came to its final resting place in this lane.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly afterward and carefully pulled the car’s driver from the totaled vehicle. After conducting a series of tests, it was concluded by the Vienna police that the individual was intoxicated at the time of the crash. It is not clear whether or not the driver of the car seemed to be badly injured as a result of the collision with the utility pole. Regardless of their condition, the driver of the vehicle refused to receive any medical attention from the paramedics who arrived at the scene.
Despite the violence of the crash and the fact that the car drove twice across all the lanes of traffic it does not seem as though any other people were involved in the accident. No other cars were reportedly damaged and no other people reportedly affected by this incident. The driver of the single car involved was arrested by the police on DUI charges. It is not known whether they are currently being held or if they have been released and are awaiting a court date.
