Three Die After Being Struck by Car on Route 288

By MacDowell Law Group, P.C. on July 10, 2018

Police working within the county of Goochland just recently released a statement indicating that they were able to successfully identify the three victims of a car accident that happened along Route 288 on Wednesday, June 27th. According to initial reports, the accident happened close to 9:00 in the evening, after two well-meaning individuals noticed a four-door sedan partially pulled off to the side of the road.

The car already pulled onto the shoulder was being driven by a 25-year-old Midlothian resident who had pulled their car off of the main lane of 288 after striking a deer. While the report stated that the car was mostly pulled off onto the shoulder, it appears that part of the vehicle was still inside of the leftmost lane.

A 41-year-old from Midlothian as well as a 45-year-old Glen Allen resident were the first ones to come across the scene and decide to offer any help. They pulled their car on to the right shoulder and began to cross the road in order to assist the driver of the sedan.

This is when another vehicle, an Audi, being driven by a North Chesterfield resident approached the scene. It seems that this person saw the car poking into the leftmost lane and then swerved to avoid striking it. By doing so, they placed their vehicle directly on a path towards the three people now on foot in the area. It is not clear if the driver of the Audi was traveling at excessively high speeds, but it seems that they were not in a position to stop their car and instead collided with all three of the people standing along the roadway.

Emergency medical teams rushed to the area as soon as they were notified, but the extent of the injuries suffered by all three of the pedestrians was too great for any medical attention. All three were declared dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Audi refused any medical attention, although this does not mean that they did not experience any injuries as a result of the incident.

The Virginia State Police are now in the process of conducting an investigation into the collision.
