Stafford County Man Dies in Head-On Collision
On Friday, April 20th, a 23-year-old man from Stafford County, was driving his car through Spotsylvania County when he was involved in an accident that cost him his life. According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened shortly after 1:00 in the afternoon. The Stafford County man was behind the wheel of a four-door Toyota sedan, driving down the 8900 block of Elys Ford Road, when, for reasons that have yet to be fully explained by the police, he veered out of the eastbound lanes and into the oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes.
The point where the Toyota left the eastern lanes was close to where Elys Ford Road intersects with Plank Road. At this same place, in the western lanes, was a minivan. The official report from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department did not indicate whether or not the driver of the minivan is being held responsible for any of the accident, and it seems increasingly likely that they were obeying all of the rules of the road when the collision took place.
The Toyota’s driver shot out of the eastern lanes and headed right towards the minivan. Neither of the drivers were able to swerve their cars out of one another’s paths, and the two vehicles collided head-on. Someone, likely a witness to the accident, called 9-1-1, and soon emergency response crews—deputies with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department among them—were on the scene to assist the injured drivers and help with the initial investigation.
The driver of the minivan was injured in the crash, but it seems that the injuries that they suffered were only minor. They were transported to an area hospital for treatment, and at the time of this writing it is believed that they are recovering well.
The driver of the Toyota, on the other hand, was fatally injured as a result of the crash. Despite the attentions of the paramedics who arrived to help him, the man was unable to recover from his wounds and was declared dead at the scene of the crash.
It is not known whether or not either of the two drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
