Single Car Crash near Annandale Leaves New York Man Dead
On Thursday, September 27th, a 46-year-old man man from New York was driving their car through Annandale in Fairfax County. Reports from the Fairfax County Police Department indicate that this was around 1:30 in the morning. It is not clear where the man was traveling from, and it is also not clear where they were going to. The car being driven by the 46-year-old man was a Mercedes Benz van.
It was as they were traveling along the block of the 3200s of Backlick Road that something happened to cause the driver to lose control. The fatal auto accident is still under investigation as the authorities attempt to discover just what happened within the cab to cause this incident, and at the time of this writing all that is confirmed is that the police believe that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors to the incident. This leaves several possibilities, such as a medical emergency, drowsy driving, or something within the road itself that caused the driver jerk the wheel in an attempt to avoid a collision.
After the Mercedes van left the roadway it careened into a parking lot. Inside of the lot was an unoccupied Toyota Camry, and the Mercedes collided with this car before also crashing in to a light pole standing nearby. The collision with the two objects dealt considerable damage to both the van and the driver.
It is not clear who notified the authorities to the incident, and it is similarly unclear as to how long after the crash itself took place that the police and other emergency response teams reached the scene to begin administering medical aid to the driver. Based on the report, it does seem likely that the driver was alive when the EMTs and paramedics reached them. The 46-year-old was rushed from the location of the crash to a nearby hospital where they began to receive treatment for their numerous injuries. Unfortunately, due to the extent and severity of these injuries there was not much that the medical teams could do.
The driver of the Mercedes was declared dead sometime after arriving at the hospital.
