Police Chase Ends in DUI Charges for Herndon Man
Police in Herndon found themselves involved in a fast chase down the Herndon Parkway a couple of Saturdays ago after a routine traffic stop led to the suspect pulling away from the officer instigating the interaction. According to the official report, an unnamed officer with the Herndon Police Department was on patrol near Autumn Place and Summerfield Drive when they, for reasons that were not detailed in the official statement, spotted a motorist behaving in a way that alerted the officer to a potential problem.
The officer activated their lights, alerting the motorist that they should pull over, but the motorist had other ideas and instead sped away from the officer. The car and the pursuing officer sped away from the intersection of Autumn Place and Summerfield Drive and made their way to the Herndon Parkway. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the driver of the fleeing vehicle then lost control of their car and collided with a light pole located at the spot where Dulles Place and Herndon Parkway intersect.
Undeterred, the man inside of the car kicked open the car door and began to run away on foot down the Parkway. The police were able to apprehend the individual after only a short period of time in this new mode of transportation.
The suspect, later identified as Rogers, a Herndon resident, was immediately arrested and taken to the jail run by the Herndon Police Department where he was, as of the last official update to this story, being held without bond. As a result of his actions, Rogers faces numerous charges, including DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, and DUI while attempting to flee from pursuing police officers.
It is not believed that any individuals suffered injuries as a result of Rogers’ actions, and that the only car which was involved in an actual crash was his own (or the car that he was driving, whether or not he was the actual owner of the vehicle).
At the time of this writing, it is not clear if Rogers is still being held without bond or if he was released pending the results of his hearing.
