Pedestrian Killed in Falls Church

By MacDowell Law Group, P.C. on September 6, 2018

Police with the Fairfax County Police Department are currently working to investigate a fatal pedestrian accident that happened early on Monday, September 3rd, that resulted in the death of a person who was on foot and crossing a road in Falls Church.

Initial reports suggest that it was somewhere around 2:00 in the morning when a woman who has yet to be publicly identified was walking along Arlington Boulevard. The woman, who police identified only as being 36-years-old, was on foot beside the above-mentioned roadway when, for reasons that are not clear, they decided to cross the road at an area where there is no crosswalk, has no stop sign or stop lights, and is not an intersection. The report from the Fairfax County Police Department indicated that she was attempting merely to cross the road, so it does not seem as though she was walking down one of the center lanes when a car approached the area.

The pedestrian had reached the westbound lanes when the passing car reached her. Due to reasons that are not clear, the driver of this car failed to see the pedestrian and collided with her. The force of the collision knocked the woman over and caused her to suffer from fatal injuries. It is not clear who called the police and paramedics, but it does seem highly likely that the driver of the car is the one who placed the initial call. The official report indicated that the driver remained at the scene of the crash during the entire preliminary investigation and was fully cooperative with the police as they asked them questions about the incident.

While much of the information relating to the incident is not known and is pending the outcome of the official investigation, the reports did state that the police do not feel as though alcohol or excessive speed were factors with caused or intensified the incident. This leaves a lot of unanswered questions for investigators working on the case, and it is hoped that as the investigation continues that the updates and discoveries made by the law enforcement agency will be relayed to the public.

No charges are currently pending in the incident.
