One Teenager Dead after Single-Car Crash in Clifton
Detectives working with the Fairfax County Police Department in the city of Clifton are continuing to investigate an incident which happened on Tuesday, July 10th, and resulted in the death of a 17-year-old person. Reports from the FCPD indicate that the incident took place somewhere around two o’clock in the afternoon, and that the 17-year-old was driving their 2005 Jeep down the westbound lane of Fairfax Station Road, close to the area where this road intersects with Colewood Estates Road.
The 17-year-old was not alone in the car, and the report stated that there were two other young people in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The three people were traveling from an unknown location towards another unknown location, using Fairfax Station Road as a connecting point, when the young driver lost control of the vehicle.
The jeep left the roadway, and before the teenager was able to regain control of the car it collided with a tree. Either a witness to the crash or one of the people inside of the car was able to call the police shortly after the crash occurred, and there were soon numerous emergency response vehicles in the area to assist the crash victims.
According to the report, the driver of the car died as a result of the injuries they sustained; although it is not clear if they were alive when the paramedics reached the crash site or if they died in the crash itself. Another teenager was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. It is not clear if they are still in unstable condition or if the medical teams were able to help them pull through the greatest danger.
Lieutenant Eli Cory, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department told reporters that drivers traveling throughout the Clifton area need to take more precautions than when traveling through other areas of Fairfax County. Lieutenant Cory stated that the reason for this was because the roads throughout Clifton are far more narrow than most other Fairfax County roadways. The help combat this, the speed limit throughout these areas are usually 25 mph. The detectives working on this case currently believe that the 17-year-old was traveling well above that limit at the time of the crash.
