Motorcyclist Dies After I-66 Crash in Fairfax County

By MacDowell Law Group, P.C. on June 18, 2018

On Friday, June 15th, a Woodbridge resident was riding on a motorcycle along a Fairfax County stretch of Interstate 66 when he was involved in a collision that caused him to suffer from fatal injuries. A report from the Virginia State Troopers outlines the incident as it is currently known, although this report stresses the fact that there are still uncertain elements in the case and an official investigation is currently underway.

Fortunately for the progress of the investigation, witnesses were in the area who claim to have seen the entire event. According to these eyewitness reports, the motorcyclist, a 27-year-old, was driving down Interstate 66, seemingly going much faster than the posted limit. With him was another cyclist, although it is not clear if this second person was in any way involved with the following crash and death.

As the two bikers were speeding through traffic, the 27-year-old failed to adequately navigate his bike as he passed by a car—described as a Jaguar—located on the road. Either that or the driver of the car failed to register the presence of a motorcycle beside them and allowed their vehicle to drift into the lane of the motorcyclist, thus causing the collision.

Witnesses describe the motorcycle as sideswiping the car and then the rider of the bike immediately losing control of the swiftly moving machine. The bike then departed from the roadway along the left shoulder and collided heavily with the guardrail located at this area. The force of the collision threw the biker from the motorcycle and caused him to sustain fatal injuries.

The other motorcyclist and the driver of the Jaguar both remained at the scene of the incident, while the police and other emergency response crews throughout the nearby Fairfax County Area rushed to the crash location. The paramedics stated that, while the 27-year-old was wearing a helmet at the time he was thrown from the motorcycle, the other traumatic blows to his body were beyond the protective abilities of any motorcycling gear. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

It is not known if any charges are pending in the case.
