Motorcyclist Dies after Crashing in Alexandria
Police with the Alexandria Police Department in Fairfax County are currently seeking any information that will help them in their investigation into the death of a 34-year-old Haymarket resident who died after crashing their motorcycle on King Street on the morning of Friday, March 30th. According to the initial report, the incident took place at close to 2:30 in the morning, on King Street’s 4300 block, and only involved the one individual and their motorcycle.
Shortly after the crash occurred, police received a call from a witness to the event. Emergency response teams with various Alexandria agencies arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and began to asses the damage of the incident as well as provide whatever medical care they could to the person who had been thrown violently from their motorcycle.
A report from detectives with the Alexandria Police Department states that the 34-year-old was on his motorcycle, traveling down the eastern lanes of King Street, when, for reasons that are the primary thrust of the investigation, he lost control of the bike and crashed into a lamppost.
While the initial investigation was conducted, officers with the Alexandria Police closed down both the eastern and western lanes of King Street for a stretch that ran from North Hampton Place to Park Center Drive. The road was reportedly closed down throughout the remainder of the early morning hours, and while it has since been reopened, the report did not indicate at what time this reopening occurred.
It is not clear if the motorcyclist was alive when the paramedics first reached the scene, but we do know that he was subsequently declared dead, and that this declaration took place at the location of the crash, meaning that he was never able to be transported to a hospital for treatment.
Now, Alexandria Police and detectives are looking to conclude with certainty the reasons behind the fatal accident. The report did not state whether or not any tests had been run to determine if the deceased individual was intoxicated at the time of the event, although this is only one of the possible reasons for an incident of this sort.
