Falls Church Man Arrested for DUI and Hit-and-Run in Arlington

By MacDowell Law Group, P.C. on April 11, 2018

On Tuesday, March 27th, a man from Falls Church was in Arlington when he was arrested by police with the Arlington Police Department after a string of incidents including a hit-and-run and assault of a law enforcement officer working for Arlington County. Details surrounding the situation are currently patchy due to the ongoing nature of the investigation; however we do have a report from the Arlington Police Department to help us unravel the most important facts relating to the incident.

It seems that a 30-year-old Falls Church man was first placed on the police’s radar when police received a call shortly before 11:30 at night saying that a hit-and-run had taken place along North Irving Street’s 1100 block. When members of Arlington’s police force arrived, they immediately took note of two parked cars with damage as well as a third damaged car, presumably the one involved in the collisions, that was located nearby. It does not seem that the third car was parked in a legal space, and the language of the report suggests that the driver of the car instead left it either in the middle of the road or pulled off to the side before running away from the area.

Numerous witnesses to the scene helped the authorities by describing the individual who was believed to have been behind the wheel of the third car when it collided with the others. Using the descriptions of the witnesses and, presumably, the information gleaned from examining the car, the authorities were able to determine the likely identity of the culprit of the hit-and-run. Police were then able to contact the individual directly and request that they return to the scene of the incident for questioning.

The 30-year-old man contacted by the police arrived some time later in a taxi. Police said that it became clear that the man was intoxicated, and that when they requested that he exit the taxi he refused. Instead, as the police attempted to pull him from the car, he began to thrash around and tried to get the officers off of him. In the ensuing struggle, it is believed that the man hit or punched one of the police.

Charges have been filed against the individual, although it is not clear if a trial date has been set.
