Fairfax County Single Car Crash Leads to Death
An accident involving only one vehicle resulted in the death of one individual this past Saturday in Reston. The Fairfax County Police Department have issued a statement on the incident that outlines the most verifiable elements of the incident so far. Because the crash is still under investigation, it is too early to say whether or not there will be additional facts that are released at a later date.
A 23-year-old man from the Maryland city of Upper Marlboro was driving his Subaru through Reston early in the morning on Saturday. It is believed that he was traveling along the eastern lanes of Baron Cameron Avenue, closing in on the intersection of this road and Hunter Mill Road. This was close to 1:15 in the morning.
For reasons that are still under investigation, one of the Subaru’s tires departed from the road. Either because they were incredibly surprised by the sudden change or because they temporarily lost control of the vehicle, the driver of the Subaru attempted to wrench the vehicle back onto the road. As often happens in such cases as this, the attempt to pull the car back onto the asphalt resulted in the driver overcorrecting.
The Subaru shot over the eastern lanes of the highway, through the median, over the westbound lanes, and then collided directly with a pole supporting a traffic signal.
It is not clear who was at the scene to place the emergency call to the police, but we do know that first responders as well as members of the Fairfax County Police Department arrived shortly after the collision between the car and the pole took place.
The driver of the Subaru was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and the rescue team worked carefully to extricate them from the car. They were then loaded to an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital. It is not clear what condition they were in when they arrived at the medical facility, but we do know that they were declared dead shortly after arriving.
The crash reconstruction team with the Fairfax County Police Department is, as stated above, still working to complete the investigation into this incident and its possible causes.
