Fairfax County Police Officer Causes Accident Resulting in Extensive Injuries
Close to five months ago, a Fairfax County Police officer, Siteki, was en route to a answer a disorderly conduct call concerning a man at Arlington Boulevard’s 6100 block when he collided with another car at the Patrick Henry Drive and Leesburg Pike intersection located in Falls Church. According to the official Fairfax County Police Department report, the call regarding the disturbance arrived at the station close to 10:30 in the morning, and Officer Siteki, a member of the force for 2 years, raced immediately towards the scene.
Police chief for Fairfax County, Ed Roessler, said that Siteki was driving at a recorded 68 mph when the accident occurred. That’s 28 mph above the posted speed limit. The other car, a 2000 Toyota Sienna, was driving through the intersection when Siteki, who had not activated his lights or his siren, collided with it. Siteki reportedly jumped out of his car after radioing for help, and rushed over to the minivan. The driver, who has not been named and is identified only as being a 53-year-old, was rushed by emergency crews to a nearby hospital. As a result of a collision, this driver of the minivan suffered injuries which the police reported as being extensive. The driver’s current condition is not known.
Siteki is currently on paid administrative leave while the crash site undergoes investigation. According to the report, the Officer Siteki is not due in court until the 13th of September.
The entire Fairfax County Police Department made it clear in their statements that the circumstances of this accident are highly disturbing. Speaking on the record, Chief Roessler noted that the safety of the residents of Fairfax County and other visitors to the community was something that he and the rest of the department take very seriously. As such, this accident, which very notably resulted due to Officer Siteki’s failure to use the lights and siren provided with his cruiser for exactly this sort of situation, is going to involve a high level of scrutiny as the investigating body seeks to uncover all the particulars of the incident and what, if anything, could have been done to prevent it from happening in the first place.
