Fairfax County Police Arrest Man for Sexual Assault
On September 12th, an unnamed woman drove to 12005 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, in order to undergo what she believed to be an interview. According to the report from the Fairfax County Police, the woman had gotten the interview after responding to an ad placed on Craigslist for an administrative assistant. When she arrived at the location, she met the 44-year-old Gainesville resident, Rauf. Upon entering the building and being closed in an office with Rauf, the woman told police that the man proceeded to sexually assault her.
Over one month later, and following an extensive investigation by the Fairfax County Police Department, Rauf was arrested last week. According to the official report from the FCPD, Rauf was officially apprehended last Wednesday and is currently being held at the Adult Detention Center without bond having been placed.
It appears that the incident in September is not Rauf’s first foray into sexual assault. Already a registered sex offender, Rauf seems to have relied on Craigslist more than once, although it is not clear if the previous case (or cases) which earned Rauf his sex offender status stemmed from ads placed on the popular website. Investigating officers discovered numerous other ads placed by Rauf that would have targeted the same type of individual as the woman who first came forward about the September 12th incident. It also appears that the office building at 12005 Sunrise Valley Drive was being used by other Craigslist posters for job interviews.
Officer Awad, a member of the Fairfax County Police Department, said that two additional people have come forward with claims that Rauf assaulted them as well, however charges in those cases have yet to be officially filed against the man. It is entirely possible, however, that one or both of these cases (as well as other instances which have yet to surface) will lead to additional charges being leveled at Rauf.
The investigation into all three accusations is currently underway as detectives with the Fairfax Police Department attempt to unravel as much as possible the events leading up to the crimes as well as the details of the crimes themselves.
