Fairfax Co Police Search for Driver Responsible for Hit-and-Run
Police officers with the Fairfax Police Department are in the process of trying to identify and locate an individual who is believed to be behind hit-and-run crash that took place last weekend in the area of Falls Church known as Bailey’s Crossroads. According to the initial police report, the incident involved a car and two pedestrians who were attempting to cross Columbia Pike. One of the pedestrians was a 12-year-old girl, the other was the girl’s mother.
It was dark and it was raining on Saturday night as the two were making their way on foot to the Fairfax County intersection of Columbia Pike and Tyler Street. They were on the sidewalk when they reached a point of the road where a crosswalk connected the two sides of the street. The woman and her young daughter left the sidewalk and, using the crosswalk, began making their way across the asphalt when a car, believed now to be a C-Class Mercedes sedan, came down the road and struck them.
9-1-1 was called in the moments after the crash and Fairfax County Police and other first responders were able to arrive at the scene before too much time had elapsed. Both of the pedestrians were transported to a nearby hospital where the woman received treatment for injuries that the official report described as minor and the girl was treated for injuries of a slightly more severe nature, although she is expected to make a full recovery.
During the collision, several pieces of the Mercedes, including a side-view mirror and a component of the car’s grille, were dislocated from the car and left at the scene. After subjecting the pieces to analysis, Fairfax County Police confirmed that both pieces came from the same car: a C-Class Mercedes Sedan, dark blue in color, that was made between 2012 and 2015. Police are hoping that this information will aid in the identification of the car in question as well as the apprehension of the car’s driver.
At the time of this writing, police in Fairfax County are especially concerned with contacting body shops in the area to discover if any of them have recently treated a car matching the above description.
