Driver Suffers Minor Injuries in Fairfax County Crash
On Wednesday, May 16th, an incident took place along Georgetown Pike in Great Falls resulted in massive lane closures and disrupted the evening commute for many individuals attempting to return home after a long day of work. While the reports from the Fairfax County Police Department are surprisingly lacking in detail given the vast number of people affected by the incident, we do know some of the more pertinent details.
A single car was involved in the incident that happened shortly before 5:00 on Wednesday evening. It is not clear if the heavy rain and slick roads played a decisive role in the incident, but this is highly likely as police used the crash to reinforce an already issued warning regarding the inclement weather conditions. Especially as the day darkened and the possibly wet or slick patches of road became more difficult to spot, it grew increasingly important for drivers to remain on the lookout for possible road hazards.
It is not clear from the report if the car involved in the crash struck a barrier wall, a curb, an electric pole, or if it left the road entirely and struck some trees. We do know that the driver of the car suffered from some minor injuries as a result of the incident, but they are believed to be recovering well from their experience. The report did not state whether or not anyone other than the driver was in the car at the time of the crash, but, if there was, they did not suffer from any injuries in the incident.
A large portion of Georgetown Pike that lay to the east of Old Dominion Drive shut down after the crash in order for the police to conduct their initial investigation and a tow truck to remove the car from the area. We do not yet know if the car involved in the incident was badly damaged or if the damage that it suffered is repairable. We also do not know if the driver of the car was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries or if he was able to be treated at the scene of the incident.
