Driver Behind Hit-and-Run in Falls Church Arrested
An investigation into a crash that took place earlier this month has received a jolt of life after the perpetrator of the incident was caught this past week. The crash, which happened on January 6th, involved two cars at the intersection of North Washington Street and Columbia Street in Falls Church. The initial statement from the Fairfax Police Department recounted how the cars had approached the intersection at perpendicular angles. One of the cars had a red light, the other had a green light, but as the driver of the car facing the green light began to travel through the intersection the driver of the second car, facing the red light, ignored their traffic signal and attempted to pass through the intersection as well.
The two cars collided in the intersection. It is not clear just how bad the collision was or if either of the cars involved was terribly damaged, however it is clear that the driver of the car who ran the red light immediately fled the scene, accelerating wildly as they made their way down Washington Street and into Arlington County and leaving behind them the injured inhabitants of the other vehicle: two adults and two children.
It is not clear if 9-1-1 was called by the inhabitants of the car or if a witness to the accident phoned the emergency services, but it is clear that paramedics and members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene of the crash shortly after it took place. There, they pulled the four people from the damaged vehicle and transported all of them to a nearby hospital. It is believed that none of the four people were badly injured, however the full extent of their wounds was not released in the initial statement.
The updated statement, released on the 16th of January, indicates that the investigation into the identity and whereabouts of the perpetrator was successful. Solomon, a 23-year-old McLean resident, was identified as the person behind the hit-and-run vehicle. Police with the Fairfax County Police Department issued a warrant for their arrest on the 14th of January, and the next morning, at 2:10, they were captured.
Charges against Solomon are now pending.
