Crash Between Alexandria Officer and Civilian Sends Officer to Hospital
A collision between a police cruiser with the Alexandria Police Department and a civilian vehicle resulted in the cruiser being shoved off of the road and into a building near the street early in April. The incident, which happened on Tuesday, April 3rd, resulted in the officer on duty in the cruiser being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. An official report filed by the Alexandria police department states that the crash is still under investigation while the authorities attempt to discover just what happened to cause the two cars to ram into one another with such force.
The report states that the crash occurred at the intersection of Henry Street and Princess Street around 9:30 at night. While the cause of the collision was not included in the report, a picture taken of the scene of the crash shows the cruiser, with a large dent in its rear end, sitting on top of a pile of bricks. On the cruiser’s left side is what appears to be a toppled brick wall or pillar, and the front of the police vehicle is poking through a brick wall belonging to a large brick building. It was not clear from the report if the building in question is a residential one or if it is used for commercial purposes.
The officer, as stated above, was injured enough to require transportation to a nearby hospital. The report did not indicate what the condition of the officer was at the time they were admitted, and it did not offer a follow-up report to say whether or not the officer has since been released and if they have returned to the force.
Injuries were also sustained by the civilian involved in the collision, although they were seemingly not as bad as those sustained by the police officer. The civilian driver was able to be treated at the scene of the crash and it is believed that they are recovering without incident from the physical damage.
An investigation is now underway into the causes of the crash, and the preliminary report failed to offer any details regarding this investigation or its potential direction. No charges are believed to have yet been filed against either of the two people involved.
