Annandale Crash Leaves Two Injured
A little over a week ago on Sunday two people were involved in a car accident in Annandale that left both of them injured and one trapped inside of their vehicle until police could reach them. Details on the crash are not widely known, and the initial statements from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, all of which appeared on Twitter, gave only bits and pieces of the event for us to reconstruct.
What is clear is that the accident took place along Braddock Road and Glen Park Road in the mid-morning. Two separate cars were involved. Each car only held one inhabitant: the driver. It is not clear whether or not the two cars were traveling in the same direction, if they were headed in opposite directions, or if they encountered one another at an intersection. What we do know is that the crash happened near or at the intersection of Braddock Road and Glen Park Road at around 10:30 am and that it was severe enough to cripple both vehicles.
After the collision, one of the drivers was trapped inside of their car. Either witnesses to the accident or one of the two involved called 9-1-1 and emergency response teams arrived at the area shortly afterward to assist. The driver trapped inside of the car was rescued without much difficulty, although it was not clear if the Jaws of Life were used to extricate them from the vehicle or if the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was able to remove them without recourse to the life-saving technology.
While the conditions of both of the drivers was not released in total, it is believed that both suffered from injuries as a result of the accident.
Authorities closed down Braddock Road’s westbound lanes while the initial investigation and clean-up occurred, but all the lanes were reopened shortly afterwards. The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s Twitter posting did not indicate whether or not this was an investigation that should be considered ongoing or if they were able to gather all the needed pieces of information shortly after the crash took place.
